# Gemini CLI

> Connect Geekflare to Gemini CLI with the official extension, which adds the MCP server and the Geekflare skill for web search, scraping, screenshots, and website checks.

[Gemini CLI](https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli) is Google's open-source AI agent for the terminal. With the Geekflare extension installed, Gemini can search the web, scrape pages, take screenshots, and run website checks.

## Setup

**Extension (Recommended)**

Install the official extension. It adds the Geekflare MCP server and the Geekflare skill together:

```bash theme={null}
gemini extensions install https://github.com/geekflare/geekflare-skills
```

Gemini CLI prompts for `GEEKFLARE_API_KEY` during install and stores it as a sensitive setting, so you don't paste the key into a config file.

The extension is listed in the [Gemini CLI extension gallery](https://geminicli.com/extensions).

**MCP only**

To add only the MCP server, add this to `~/.gemini/settings.json`:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "geekflare": {
      "httpUrl": "https://mcp.geekflare.com/YOUR_API_KEY/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your Geekflare API key.

## Usage Examples

Run `gemini` and ask naturally:

**Search the web**

```
Search the web for the latest Next.js release notes with Geekflare.
```

**Scrape a webpage**

```
Scrape https://example.com and summarize the main content in bullet points.
```

**Check a website**

```
Check the TLS certificate of example.com.
```

See [Agent Skills](/mcp/agent-skills.md) for more about the skill the extension installs.
